This morning I was planning my usual Sunday long run in preparation for my first marathon in July. I've been getting quite into the longer distance training, it's something I've never done before but actually running for 3 hours or so at a fairly mellow pace is very therapuetic! I took my ipod for the first couple of times in case I got deadly bored, and a gel in case I had a sugar crash, but the last couple of weeks I haven't bothered with either. Just hitting different bush trails and running by myself for hours, it's (perversely) a great way to spend a Sunday morning!
This morning was slghtly differeny - my first run over 30km. I was going to go up to Terry Hills and hit a trail I know, but then I remembered that the Great Nosh run from Lindfield to Seaforth through the bush was on at 10am, so on a whim I turned the car to Seaforth at 8am to park at the finish and run back to the start.
Saw a couple of guys getting kitted up to run in the car park so went and said hi and the four of us jogged through the bush on the verge of getting completely lost, until we found two other guys who knew the trails and were doing the same thing and the six of us al ran together, getting to the start just 15 mins before the race.
It was a really fun race as well, beautiful bushland, some intense climbs and some rocky single track (nearly twisted an ankle about 20 times), but I was in race mode and kept up a clip of between 4 and 5 minute kms on the flat which was I thought was pretty good after having already done 15km before the start! Finished nicely, met a few CoolRunners wearing the gear and had a chat and went 4 times around the oval to make it to 32km all up. Happy days.
