Man my bike today felt like shit. Really rubbish session, I felt fine waking up and ready to go, but once out on the road I just could not get my cadence up and felt like I was pushing through treacle trying to get going. The legs wouldn't go round and the bike just wouldn't go at any speed, I tried to push it and couldn't.
I don't know if anyone else gets the feelng that some days you just can't go and you woner whether it's you or whether there's something wrong with the bike! So I had enough and thought this is a waste, I'll go home early and maybe meditake or hang out with the cats for a bit before work. Then suddenly something was really wrong... yep big flat in the back wheel. I tried pumping it up but it was a huge puncture and the air just poured back out instantly. So I bit the bullet, took off the wheel and that's when the rain started...
Man I could NOT get that tyre off the rim, then I struggled to get the tube out like it was too small or something. It just took forever. Finally I wrestled it out and got the new one in, then I thought "screw pumping, I'm going to try this C02 cartridge for the first time", so I gave it a go and it was awesome, pumped to full 120 psi in like a second.
So now rather than time to burn, I'm running late. Take off running over the bridge but legs are shot so really just stumbling along listening to a Zen Triathlon podcast and chuckling away to myself. About a quarter of the way across the bridge these two girls pass me and run right in front of me. I speed up just a little to keep up with their pace, but don't have the energy or interest to pass them. Suddenly after a few hundred metres they start looking around at me, giving me the evil eye. Then they stop dead and say "Go on past". I said, "Nah I don't need to pass, you guys are setting a nice pace". And they're all "We can't run with you behind us".
What? I've never heard that one before. Gals have got some issues.
Anyway I'm all late to work and get told off by my boss, plus my fingernails are coated in black grease and I've got all these interviews and I'm trying to take notes and hide my fingers the whole time. Actually it was a pretty good day anyway.
I don't know how long that bike tyre was flat for, but I don't think it was long, I think the problem was me. The day before I'd spent an hour going hard doing drills on the turbo trainer, then gone out and run Pain in the Domain group 1 so naturally my legs were screwed. I don't think they'd ever properly recovered from the beating they took on the weekend.
