Surf safari

The next day after Boxing Day, Sarah and I joined newlyweds Dan and Mia and hired a Britz campervan for 10 days of cruising around the south coast, dropping in on a whole bunch of friends, taking the coastal roads and finding secluded surf spots, swimming in inlets and camping in the bush! We had perfect weather and really had a sensational time.

I wanted to bring the bike along, but there was nearly a mutiny. Fair enough as it turned out there wasn’t a huge amount of spare room in the van after 4 people’s luggage, food, camping gear and surfboards. I did manage to stick to a plan of running every second day (one intervals, one tempo, then one long run) and found some beautiful bush tracks and firetrails and dirt roads. In between it was all surfing, swimming and eating. Plenty of drinking too it turned out.

All in all a fabulous holiday, the only down side was that I left my HR monitor chest strap in the van and those bastards denied all knowledge of it. The cleaners probably chucked it out. I can’t believe those things cost $130 to replace, that’s an outrage! I’m still tossing up buying a whole new unit on ebay, it doesn’t look like that much more. Plus my footpod had stopped working anyway so I’ll need a new one of those… Heart rate monitors are so cool, but so damn annoying sometimes!
