Easter weekend

I woke up on Good Friday morning to a bleak cold grey day and extremely sore legs. They copped a hammering at the Sydney Marathon Clinic 30km race last Sunday after a week of no runing, and had been feeling sore and heavy all week after running Tues/Wed/Thurs. I had a therapeutic 1.5km swim after work Thursday arvo and come Friday morning they just needed more attention, so off I went for a solid 2 hour yoga session at the extraordinarily civilised time of 7am (I normally get there just after 5...)

It was a great session and my first go at yoga after almost 3 weeks off (due to it being cancelled for 2 weeks because of a course on at the school, plus being sick) and it did feel sensational and reminded my why I love it so much and why I need to get up there more often. Although the same thing happens that always happens when I take 2 weeks off... the next day all my muscles and my back were in some serious distress! Took it easy on the excercising for the rest of the day and hoped my legs would be better the next day.

Saturday dawned and my plan was to drive out to Terrey Hills to hit some trails in Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park that I've done before and are great for running on. The problem was that by the time I got there it had been drizzling pretty hard for at least an hour, on top of which I was feeling kind of fuzzy-headed and itchy-throated and heavy-legged and not really in the mood for running. I hardened the ---- up and went out into the chilly drizzle and started off down the trail, but within seconds I was sliding around like I was wearing wool socks on polished floorboards - the rain had turned the trail to wet heavy clay. After about 5 minutes I realised that I couldn't keep up any pace, it was extremely dangerous and not much fun. Plus I still felt rubbish. So I turned around and went back. Mission aborted!

In fact I did bugger all for the whole day. My three options that morning were to drive out to Wisemans Ferry for the 34km option of the Fatass run - I really wanted to try that trail and meet some more Coolrunners, but I didn't fancy the hour and fifteen minute drive each way. The second option was to go to Centennial Park for the Balmoral Tri Club brick session which I haven't been able to make for the last couple of months, but I really really enjoy. Or the Terrey Hills run by myself. Well I'd made my choice and it all fell apart, so cést la vie, I went and hung out with my parents then came back and kicked around home, read the weekend papers and napped and finally thought "I have to do something" so cruised down to the pool at 6.15pm and managed to get a good 2km of swimming in before the 7pm close.

Apart from a short session on Thursday after work I hadn't been for a swim in a couple of weeks either, and once again it felt sensational and I thought I have to get swimming more often, but more importantly I really need to get some decent stroke correction lessons!
