Marathon photos

Here I am prematurely celebrating with raised arms and high fives before realising (about 2 seconds later) that I needed to break into a flat-out sprint for the last 200m to make it home in under 3:10

The offical photos:

Professor and I looking relaxed and comfortable in the rain during the first few kms.

This girl kept a good pace, I picked her up about 30 seconds after Professor dropped back a little with a stitch at 28km. We ran together for a while and finally I decided to up the pace and pull ahead. Then suddenly I had to veer off to the bushes to pee, so she passed right by and I spent the next few kms focussed on her purple shirt way ahead of me in the distance, trying to reel her in. I finally managed to catch and pass her at the last turnaround.

Complacency before the last corner, there I was so happy and all smiles at knowing I would achieve my goal time... before rounding the corner and catching sight of the clock!

About 30 seconds later when I got to the finish chute. Check out the difference - head down and legs pumping hard for the sprint to get over the line in under 3:10
How serious is the look on my face?

By the way I did take my splits from the halfway point.
1st half: 1:34:30
2nd half: 1:35:30

With taking exactly 1 minute to urinate during the 2nd half, that puts me at exactly even splits for the race. Cool.
