110km Saturday Ride

Bew-diful ride this morning, the weather was absolutely glorious. Thankfully it wasn't too freezing because I lost one arm warmer in the week, I have no idea how. I tossed up riding with one arm warmer, but that seemed a bit silly.

Started at 6am at Le Spit with Dave and Mark and we picked up Brad, Amy and Marty at Bike Addiction in North Manly at 6.20am. Where we noticed that Mark's rear wheel cogs were totally loose and rattling all over the place. We tried to tighten the lockring by hand but it was hopeless. Suprisingly they survived the whole ride and he was even able to change gears.

Up Pittwater Road, Church Point, to the top of McCarrs Creek Road, then back down to Akuna Bay in a sudden white-out of tremendous fog. Guys were yelling out "corner!" because you could barely see the road. Dave had a flat coming back up the other side and Brad and Amy decided to press on because they were heading home (Amy has another 100km fast ride tomorrw, she's a machine!)

So Mark, Dave, Marty and I continued on, turned towards West Head and suddenly Dave had a second flat! Poor bugger. He waved us on and the other three of us continued towards West Head for another 20 minutes or so, before turning back to pick him up where he informed us that he'd picked half a Heineken Botle out of his tyre! Descending down McCarrs Creek Road I saw Hamburglar coming up with his bro and some friends and stopped for a quick chat.

Home along Pittwater Road and I notched up just over 110km total. That's further than I've ridden in months and it was really nice to get a longer session in and still feel ok. I felt a bit fadey at about 70km, suddenly realised that I should probably be eating and drinking more so scoffed some PB and banana sandwich and half a litre of water and I think it saved me, because I felt strong (although tired) right up til the end. I'm not sure how 25-30km at the Nosh tomorow will go though...
