Cowichan Trail run - Thursday

I got over the food poisoning in two days which I guess was ok. It was incredibly frustrating to be lying around when we're having about 18 hours of daylight and absolutely gorgeous weather and there's miles of forest around... but there was ni avoiding it and I was just happy it was over so soon.

On Thursday morning I jumped into the ute we'd rented at 7am and drove down to a trail I'd found on the internet, just down by Shawnigan Lake. It was about a 10.5km stretch, a flat and utterly deserted gravel path between towering pine trees with glimpses of the lake only a hundred metres away off to the left. I decided a mid-long run out and back as close to marathon pace as possible would be the way to go so off I went.

I struggled for the first half, never really able to get the pace together properly, but enjoying the run. Turnaround was almost exactly 10.5km so perfect for a half marathon distance run and then I started to get my form together and run a lot easier and a lot faster, I managed long stretches at 4.15 pace or faster. Was hurting by the end though, the last 3 km were a little brutal. I was damn happy to have managed it though.

Did a recovery ride in the afternoon on Sarah's mum's bike up the Galloping Goose Trail from View Royal to Saanich and back into Victoria to meet Sarah to go shopping. I'll post some photos soon, it was beautiful.

But now I'm off to a wedding for a few days and then camping in Tofino so we'll see how the running keeps up!
