Thankfully the knee seems to be ok. I went the next day to see Blair my physio and he said it's not out of whack, it's tracking ok, it's probably just overdoing it.
My personal opinion is that it's frmo riding my single speed commuter bike with a fixed hub for a whole week practising braking by locking up the back wheel. Serious forces on the knees, in a direction which they've never experienced before. I thought I'd ride it fixed just Monday and Friday so I didn't overdo it on the knees (I knew it!) but then I was too lazy to flip the wheel over to freewheel, so I just rode it fixed all week. No surprise my knees protested!
The good news from Blair was that a couple of voltarin and ice to get the swelling down, a day or two of rest and I should be ready to go again. I didn't ride Tues or Wed and tossed up going to Boundary Riders on Thursday, but with Round the Bay just a week away I didn't want to push it too early, so left the first ride until Friday. No problem.
Saturday I did the McCarrs Creek Road hill twice and Akuna bay with Brad, Mike, Brent and Pete - I had to be back home by 10am to do the Spit to Manly walk with our Canadian houseguests Krista and Tagg. Even without West Head it was still a solid ride of 95km. Plus walking for another 4 hours afterwards and my legs were shattered last night.
I was tossing up whether to go for a Sunday ride or not, but when I woke at 5am feeling fresh and awake (even after getting to bed at almost midnight), I figured "What else am I going to do?" Sore legs or not, why not at least get out on what was shaping up to be a cracker of a morning.
I met Dave and James at LE Spit and we went to Seaforth, Terry Hills, Pacific Highway, Galston Gorge, Berowra Waters. We tossed up coming back through Bobbin Head but James had to get back home fairly rapidly, so we decided to go straight down the highway instead. I wouldn't hve suggested shortening the route, but by that stage my aching legs were crying with joy at the prospect of a few less kms and one less big hill. Still a good 105km with a couple of good climbs.
Basically this week's riding consisted of 250km over Fri/Sat/Sun. That's ok, with Round the Bay in exactly one week it time for a couple of easy days and rest up the legs. Thankfully the knee is feeling good, the bike has been serviced and is running smoothly and I'm very stoked about getting away for the weekend!
