The tapering program is going all according to plan so far and the knees are feeling better which I'm really relieved about. Had a full rest day Monday.
Tuesday I did yoga in the morning then Pain in the Domain at lunch. It really was painful, my legs felt quite heavy (weirdly since my mileage the week before was almost half of what it has been and no long run on Sunday) and group one set a cracking pace which had be gasping at the back. I was a bit ginger about the knees too so not going all out in the sprints, then I rolled my ankle trying to dodge crowds of people gawking at the Kittyhawk. Thankfully it wasn't too bad a roll and I shook it off. It was scary for a few minutes there though!
Anyway I did a 10km on the way to work today at marathon pace. I tried to keep around 4:40mins per km, although with stairs and hills it ended up averaging closer to 5min kms. The new shoes seem to be doing the trick because while I could still feel the knees twinging a bit, they were way better afterwards than they have been for days. I also tried out running with gels pinned to my shorts for the first time which seemed to go ok.
