Breakthrough swim

Trying to do a bit of recovery this week, I figured Bay in a Day probably took more out of me than I realised, especially with that touch of dehydration, so I didn't want to push too hard this week. I had a few celebratory drinks Monday night with Sarah and stayed up late, so Tuesday morning yoga took a back seat to sleeping in. And I didn't think it would be a wise move to hammer my legs at Pain in the Domain at Tuesday lunch, so gave that a miss as well.

I did go for a swim yesterday morning, had to get to the pool when it opened at 5.30am so I could get away in time for this breakfast training session at the Westin at 7.30. It was a fantastic session, easily the best swim of the year so far. A breakthrough I reckon. I wasn't going very fast, but I just felt really bouyant in the water, my positioning and stroke felt right and the time flew by. I concentrated on high elbow recovery and rotating my body to get the maximum length in my stroke and I was doing the first few hundred metres at around 37 - 39 strokes for the 50m. This is fantastic considering lately I've been going 47-50 strokes at almost every session, even when I'm concentrating hard on lengthening out I rarely dip below 45.

Even by the end when I couldn't maintain the low stroke count, pretty much the highest I got to was 42 or 43 strokes so I was very happy with that! Now it's a case of maintaining it. And seeing how I go in the first swim race of the season this Sunday at the Sri Chinmoy Olympic Distance Triathlon in Canberra!
