Well following on from the last post... I wasn't on fire at all the next day. I didn't bounce back as quickly as I'd hoped for and in fact I felt rotten all of last week. Nothing terrible in the way of symptoms, it was that kind of feeling where you KNOW you’re starting to get sick and you feel just not right in your body and head. Well I had that all week, even the thought of exercise made me feel woozy and I couldn’t face doing anything. I slept in every morning and did absolutely no exercise (apart from the slow jog to work most mornings) and tried to eat healthy and sleep loads. By Friday I was finally starting to feel a little better.
Saturday morning I thought, right I need to do SOMETHING so I’m going to the Balmoral Brick session in Centennial Park. It was a very average training session and the run especially felt awful, but I struggled through it and was happy to have it over with. I was definitely glad I went because I’ve missed too many Brick sessions lately and I need some quality bike sessions if I’m going to get into any kind of shape for the upcoming triathlon season.
Went home and was wiped out, so napped and took it easy all day.
Sunday I thought I needed a final long ride before Bay in a Day, so I went out with just James and we rode to Manly, up the northern beaches to Mona Vale, McCarrs Creek, all the way out to West Head, then down to Akuna Bay and back up the other side, through to Terrey Hills and St Ives. James went to see his grandpa and I pedalled back to Fairlight through Frenchs Forest and Allambie Road to have brunch with Mum and Dad.
105km all up and James and I felt dreadful the whole ride! We had gone pretty hard on the hills the day before at brick, so I’m not surprised our legs were feeling this hills pretty badly on Sunday. I’m glad it wasn’t just me, because I would have felt like I was way sicker. But it was a struggle and a slog (even though there were a few hills where I felt suddenly strong for a brief period).
Again I was wiped out for the rest of the day and passed out into a deep nap on the couch later on. I made another batch of muesli bars too. And my legs were rooted. I was thinking of a run this morning, then a swim, but in the end I decided I needed a designated rest day. The weekend really took it out of me in my weakened state and I’m still not 100% healthy yet. Here’s hoping it’ll be soon.
