Ok it's been a long time between blogs once again. Basically because I did bugger-all training last week so there wasn't much to tell. For most of the week I was still feeling really average. Just waking up in the morning with no energy and finding it so hard to even consider doing any training. I couldn't even face a gentle yoga session, just wanted to roll over and go back to sleep... which I did every day!
I figured that my body was fighting some sort of infection and there was no point pushing it and making myself worse - obviously I needed the rest. Although as an obessive exerciser I found it really difficult to be feeling that way, "Am I losing all my conditioning? Will I ever bounce out of bed raring to go again? When will I feel energised and ready to do a hard workout?"
By Thursday I thought I have to do something, so I tried to do a long slow run around the area. And boy was it slow, but it still hurt all the way round, I just wasn't feeling it at all. And of course I stayed up late having dinner with friends as Chab was staying with us so slept in again, dinner out again on Friday night with Chab and some other friend and another late night and I felt like I was still sick every morning draggin out of bed.
But Saturday I was determined to go to the Brick session no matter what and I did get over there and thank god I did because I felt great! Not 100%, but way better than I'd felt in a fortnight and the workout was so much easier than the exact same workout the week previous. It just wasn't a struggle, I actually really enjoyed it.
Had another late night on Saturday with Jenn's incredible wedding which was so much damn fun and I was starting to feel almost normal again (although borderline diabetic as I scarfed so many delicious desserty treats - chockys, wedding cake, mini gelato...) and then had the alarm going about 5 hours later to go riding up to McCarrs Creek and back with James, Dave, Andrew and Mark. It was a short, but hard ride as we pushed it on the hills (Dave nearly gave me a heart attack when he shot up McCarrs Creek road and I couldn't help my competitive nature and had to try to keep with him). About 65km which is about all I wanted to do the weekend before Bay in a Day.
I came home and Chab wasn't back yet from staying out at Beth's house after the wedding the night before, and Sarah was doing an essay, so I grabbed by shoes and went for a 10km run around the local area. It was amazing, a beautiful warm sunny day, I felt sensational and was able to keep up a much better pace than on Thursday (not fast, but about 5.30min/kms and feeling easy the whole time - rather than struggling hard to maintain 7min/kms as I had been...)
Plus I ran at random around Wollstonecroft and found some great bush tracks to run through, went round Berry Island and hugged the waterfront home. The perfect spring Sydney day really - ideal weather and harbourfront trail running through bushland with water views! I'm blessed.
