Feeling uber crappy today, think I might have overtrained slightly.
So since Nepean I had another Monday off, just sleeping in and then swimming a lazy 2km at lunch time. I felt a bit tired and drained but not too bad.
TUESDAY
Tuesday morning I went out for my third go with the Boundary riders. Those guys really are FAST. It was a beautiful warm sunny morning and Dan and Michael came along as well. I felt that I did a lot better on the hill after Spit Bridge, but then I got well and truly dropped going along Warringah Road through Frenchs Forest. It's the change of pace that gets me, they just took off like a shot and I couldn't hang.
I tried to time trial back up to the pack but was not making any ground on them, then I flagged, right when a smaller group of us newbies came through and I latched onto them and thankfully we picked up the peleton stopped at the lights at the bottom of Beacon Hill.
Stuck with the group for a while, then a sudden change of pace again in North Manly (near the tennis courts) had us well behind. We went hard all through Balgowlah and I finally managed to catch the bunch at the Condamine Street intersection. Hard up Parrawi and fast again along Military, although I made sure to get in front for that section so wasn't dropped too far behind.
Anyway damn it was a workout! My heart rate was crazy high (forgot the HRM unfortunately so couldn't find out how high) and my legs pumping hard all the way through. Definitely the toughest bike workout I've had and I am so planning to get back there every week.
Had to axe Pain in the Domain at lunch unfortunately because I was called into a last minute meeting. It's like the first Pain session I've missed in months so I was CRABBY! That, plus an average temp of about 40 degrees in my office with the a/c on the blink. By 5.30 I was just a ball of rage. Had to get down to North Sydney pool and put in 2.5km to cool down and chill out.
WEDNESDAY
Today was rough. I got up for my long run and the morning was spectacular, plus I decided to do bush running through Balls Head, Berrys Bay etc so that was just lovely. But for the life of me I couldn't get my heart rate up (think I averaged 115) or my pace. I just plodded along and could not do any better no matter how I tried. I've been feeling wiped out the rest of today, must be overtraining.
Seriously, when I think about it, over the last 10 days I've done:
SAT - hard brick session
SUN - 100km ride pretty fast
TUES - hard ride 40km + hard run (pain in domain)
WED - 2 hour run
THURS - hard track session
SAT - hard brick session
SUN - Nepean tri (and I didn't hold back)
TUES - hard ride (40km)
Yeah, it seemed reasonable at the time, but on sober reflection that's probably a bit much a bit quick.
