The day after the aborted long run I went out for a ride with the Boundary Riders and found it a lot easier to keep up the whole way. Maybe they were going a little bit slower, but both Tuesday and Thursday this week I've noticed that I'm able to keep up a lot more comfortably than ever before. The paceline is still a real stuggle and I only just managed to keep onto the end of it this time, but hell it's better than being dropped right at the start and having to pray for red lights to get back with the group. Hopefully my bike legs are finally starting to get stronger?
Then I went to the Balmoral Tri club track session in the evening for a run. I hadn't been there in at least 3 months (simply due to Christmas / New Year holidays, then having dinners with people, concerts etc on Thursday nights). It was great to go back, such a nice group of people and Chrissy the coach does fantastic sessions which really get you going and leave you gasping, plus a great core strength workout at the end.
This time she split the group into short course and long course so I decided to go with the long course to improve my speed endurance with Huskisson in mind. It was a good tough session, 6 laps around the outside of the oval pushing hard up the hills and recovering on the rest of the lap. I ran with Ben who is an incredible runner (he told me he's done 30:30 for a 10km run... off the bike in a triathlon!) and wasn't managing to keep anywhere near him up the hills, but it was great to try to keep up and push myself. I felt good and it was a great session so I'm happy that I may be recovering a bit.
However I woke up this morning to go to yoga and could barely move again. Recovery day again!
