Going into the taper

Last week was pretty solid, but I dropped any really long stuff, so hopefully it’s allowed my body some rest to taper for the race. I did a longish run last Monday (2 ½ hours) but then nothing long at all over the weekend and I won’t before the race.

I had another easy Friday, yoga in the morning and no time for a lunchtime swim due to a busy day at work, but I needed to get back into the pool since I hadn’t since Sunday. It fined up into a lovely arvo so after work I did 2.5km at North Sydney pool. A really nice way to end the week and it actually felt like a very good session, which I was surprised at since my head is normally not in it for an after work training session. I did 500m warm up, then 3 sets of 500m each consisting of:

3 x 100m hard (5sec rest) + 200m easy
300m hard + 200m easy
8 x 50m hard (5 sec rest) + 100m easy
In the last 500m I did a couple of laps focussing on stretching out, a couple of laps breathing every 5 to 7 strokes and a couple of laps cooldown.

Saturday

Couldn’t do the Centennial Park Brick session because of Good Vibrations so I went on a 70km bike ride with a big group from the Balmoral Triathlon Club going from Le Spit up to McCarrs Creek and back through Terrey Hills and Frenchs Forest. It was a really nice group of people and a good pace on the ride. Then Dan and I ditched the bikes in his garage and went for a 45minute tempo run off the bike to give ourselves a little brick action. It felt great.

I pedalled home and went straight to playing tennis with some friends, then lunch and taking the rest of the day pretty easy.
