This was hard, a bit like the North Curly 2k in December but even harder. Getting out through the break wasn’t too difficult, probably because there wasn’t much of a break, but then it just didn’t stop. The chop was constant and, mixed with the swell, made it hard to get a breath and all too easy to swallow a fair bit of Bondi’s stormwater finest. And the swell as we ploughed out to that first buoy felt big. I rode up over some chunky crests and started to wonder if I’d be getting seasick before this swim was over.

If the swell didn’t make it difficult the chop in between did. You’d go over a big one, twist for breath only to have your mouth filled with chop.

It was consistent the whole way round. Consistently choppy and messy with the water unpredictable in terms of where and when it would come at you next.

POSTSCRIPT: My result was an uninspiring 44 minutes. I figured it was pretty slow, but I didn't think I was that slow. However I just noticed in the feedback postings this comment from the race organiser which made me feel better:
...Mermaid’s GPS measured it at 2.59km I am told. One wag said we over-delivered and should send out supplementary invoices to entrants for the extra .059kms they consumed! After a nanosecond's consideration we submerged this idea.
