Lazy or Recovery?

I'm still having a lot of trouble at 5am working out the difference between feeling lazy and feeling overtrained/under-rested.

I had a nice relaxing Monday - a full rest day where I did absolutely nothing. It was pouring hard with rain and I was knackered after a weekend of little sleep and lots of activity. So I woke up this morning at 5am ready to cruise out for a nice bike ride.

It was kind of sprinkling rain and I was feeling pretty beat so I wavered, thinking “Maybe I’ll just skip the outdoor ride in case it rains... it’ll do me good to get another hour of sleep and then at 6am I’ll go for an hour ride on the wind trainer indoors”. So with that rationale I curled up on the couch and promptly fell fast asleep until Sarah got up to get ready for work and woke me up. Then I crawled into bed and slept again until 7.30 when I literally had to walk out the door to get to work on time.

I’m not sure whether it’s laziness or recovery, but judging by how quickly and how deeply I went back to sleep, I’m fairly sure I needed it.

Had a good hit-out at lunch with the Tues/Thurs fast boys. Ran 10x 3mins (1min recovery). I was way at the back, but happy just to finish the damn thing. Those are such good sessions for long hard hitouts, I reckon if I keep at it I’ll improve my speed endurance in a big way. My HR maxed out at 183 and averaged 168 (including the recovery). Plus I sweated like I ain’t never sweated before!
