Big Thursday

It felt like a big Thursday, I was shattered by the time I got home. In retrospect it wasn’t much different to a normal Thursday of workouts, but I guess the kicker was that I don’t normally run a solid 18km the day before (normally I do yoga and have a swim, not quite so intense)

I did Boundary Riders in the morning and that was a solid session on fairly tired legs. Then ran to work and at lunchtime ran with the boys from HuRTS down to Rushcutters Bay, where we went onto the grass oval and did a session of 8 x 800m, with 2 minutes recovery (from when the lead guys came in, so that turned out to be about 1:40 recovery for me). It was also 12:30pm and 27 degrees in the blazing sun when we started.

I managed to knock out 7 reps but was fading badly on the last one and didn’t think I had an eighth left in me. Sergio had finished and was about to head back so I took the opportunity to duck out of the last rep and jog back to town with him. It wasn’t a long session (about 30mins on the oval) but I was suffering by the 7th rep and losing time and I knew that the last would be a waste.

Lap -- Avg -- Max
Time -- HR -- HR

2:49 -- 152 -- 165
2:47 -- 159 -- 173
2:46 -- 160 -- 173
2:46 -- 164 -- 176
2:50 -- 163 -- 175
2:50 -- 161 -- 176
2:54 -- 163 -- 175

Anyway I felt great all arvo, ran to North Sydney pool and punched out a fairly lacklustre 1.5km. I nearly drowned in the warm up, my body was ruined! Luckily I pulled together some form by the end.

I couldn’t face more running, so I walked slowly home along the boardwalk enjoying the sunset.

This morning I’d planned to do yoga. I didn’t really get there…unless you count define ‘yoga’ as ‘collapsing on the couch until it was time to go to work’. I’m going to do nothing today but lie around and eat. You’ve got to go with how your body is feeling.
