First attempt at marathon pace run

Yoga in the morning and it felt just as good as always. I had planned a 10km tempo / marathon race pace session, but I really felt like doing yoga twice this week and I thought I could extend my run home from work instead.

After work I jogged to Cumberland Street then started the session. I have to say, it wasn’t easy! My legs were sore from biking and running the day before and I always find it hard to keep up a solid tempo pace when I’m running solo. This run was a struggle, I had to continually force myself to keep the pace and the HR up. The pace was average, also because of the hills (I ran from the bridge straight up Pacific Highway to the lights near RNS Private and back home) and I have to really work on that to do these marathon pace runs properly at 4.15min/kms. This was averaging closer to 5min/kms.

But I guess to start with the heart rate is more important and I did try to focus on keeping it between 150 and 155. I’ve got to work out what my marathon pace is, I assume closer to 155 – 160 so I will attempt to get my marathon pace runs into that zone.
