Wednesday morning was yoga time, but I still needed to get in my medium distance marathon-pace run, so it had to be after work. Now I’m just not used to training in the evenings, all my sessions are in the early morning or at lunch so I do find the motivation difficult. But I fired myself up all day and was ready to roll for a solid 1 ½ hours at a decent pace.
Went to switch on the footpod to get pace info… dead battery. No worries I’ll run by heartrate instead… oh dear, HRM strap not working. I was so disgusted by that stupid strap which has been bugging me on so many runs that I finally took it off and hurled it in the bin mid-run!
So it was all running by feel. It was hard to push and maintain a decent pace, especially alone and in the dark, and to be honest I have absolutely no idea how I did. I ran along a completely flat course without traffic lights from the bubbler on the water side of the Opera House, around the Opera House and following the water all the way through to Hickson Road, then up to the first set of traffic lights. I then turned around and went back to the start, then did the whole thing again. So four laps in total, slowing down in the last two.

Then I ran home in 23.49. About 1:40 all up. Even if I was doing as slow as 5 minute kms I would have run 20km so I was happy with that. I'll be even happier when I buy a new HRM strap and can keep track of what I'm doing.
