It's been a long time between blogs. All because of a damn injury which means I've been doing nada, nothing, zip in terms of training. Incredibly difficult for me and annoying because my run training for the Sydney marathon was absolutely on fire. Even while I was away in Canada I managed to stick almost completely to the program - long runs, intervals, hills, tempo, it was all there. Then the day after I got back home, boom! Injury strikes and now it's been almost 3 weeks without running a step.
The short version is this. I flew in on a Wednesday. Thursday I was back at work and went out to do hills at Rushcutters Bay with the HuRTS crew. I had a fantastic session and felt really strong, then on the cool down jog back I started to get a pain runing down from my lower back, behind my right buttock and into the back of my right upper thigh. By the time I got to my office I could barely walk. An hour later I was intense pain and literally could hardly walk a step.
I went straight to a chiro recommended by my boss who said my pelvis was out of alignment, adjusted it and said I'd be back on track in a couple of days. 5 more chiro visits and two weeks later I was barely any better and he appeared to be baffled and said I should go for x-rays. "They probably won't show anything, but at least they'll be able to rule out what I already am sure it's not". The clear subtext was "I'm clueless. Getting you to spend more money will make you feel like I'm actually doing something." Time for a second opinion.
Unfortunately by this time it was Wednesday arvo and I was off to the Hunter Valley on a work retreat the next day, so the earliest I could see someone was Monday, IF they had the time free. I called for recommendations from all my running friends and put a post on CoolRunning and had a few good recommendations, but when I made my calls it turned out that everyone was either on holidays or unavailable for the next 3 weeks. Not ideal.
I had another recommendation from 2 separate sources today and called the guy, I'm seeing him tomorrow night so lets hope he can do something for me!
Missing the City to Surf yesterday SUCKED. Not having run for 3 weeks SUCKS. At least I got to cheer my wife Sarah crossing the line at the City to Surf. And I got to volunteer at the last Striders race at Lane Cove which was fun. i'll write more about my Canadian holiday running soon, that was fun times!
