Soft weekend

Not quite the big weekend I was after, but I squeezed out some training.

Saturday
It was pouring rain Saturday morning so the idea of going to Centennial Park for a 20km bike time trial did not appeal at all. In fact I went straight back to bed.

However, I opened my eyes again at 6.45 (the session was supposed to start at 7) and the rain had completely stopped and the sky looked like it may be clearing (god bless Sydney) so I made a rash decision and jumped on the bike and sped into the park.

I got there just as a small group of about 7 people was deciding what to do. They called off the TT because of the weather and instead Bruce sent us out on a ride of:
15min hard (80%) - 5 min recovery
3 x 5km hard (85%) - 5 min recovery between each
Then a solid 6km run off the bike.

It was a good hard session, but I needed some extra bike kms and I thought I'd better try to get in around 85km total (Huskisson ride distance), so I did another 5 or 6 laps around Centennial Park although my legs were shattered after the main set so I was keeping a very lacklustre pace. I ran into Christian who had his own hard session planned (15mins hard x3) so I rode with him on his warm up lap, then he disappeared into the distance a few seconds later. I got home with 84km on the clock and considered going for another run, but just on cue the rain kicked in and saved me!

Sunday
I spent a lot of mental space tossing up what to do today. I was booked in for the North Bondi Classic 2km ocean swim, but I had considered doing the Kurnell triathlon beforehands. I ended up deciding not to because it was a lean week of money for us and $100 for a sprint triathlon is a bit ridiculous in my opinion (my own fault for leaving it to the last minute so I would have paid a $25 late entry fee). Then I considered doing a long ride culminating at Bondi, or a 3 hour run.

But I ended up doing none of the above, slept in and left just in time to ride over there. The ride felt awful, legs were jelly and I was very very slow. I got there way earlier than I needed to be so just hung around Bondi by myself for over an hour in the blusterly wind before jumping in for the swim.

Not one of my best. Lots of chop, I wasn't sighting overly well and I just felt slow. I had a couple of sections where I felt like my stroke was good, but overall it was a struggle. I don't know my time, but I can't imagine it'll be too flash.

I did get a little souvenier however... I was absolutely covered in itchy sea lice bites! Loads of people got them and they're still hanging around almost 5 days later.

I had planned to do a 3 hour run in the arvo but we were at a christening party for hours and I ate a ridiculous amount, and by the time we got home and I was ready to go it would have been close to 7pm. So finishing the run about 10.30, then stretching, eating dinner, going to bed at about midnight... I didn't fancy it. Instead...

Monday
I treated Sunday as my rest day and got myself out of bed at 5am Monday to put in for a longer run. Not as long as I would have liked, but managed a solid 2 hours from home, then grabbed my bag and did another 25mins into work so I probably got at least 25km in. Not ideal (I was hoping for another 32km run) but the best I could do in the circumstances.
