Balmoral Triathlon Race 4
I rode over there in the pitch black and tried to set up transition by feel as it was utterly dark. Andrew, Sam and a bunch of other people missed the start because their mobile phones automatically reset to daylight savings time! The weather was perfect, even a bit chilly on the beach and I was ready to go, but just oh so sluggish when the hooter went.
I dropped back almost immediately on the swim, tried to rally and caught a few people but never really "felt it". The bike was lame too, my legs were achy and I felt like I didn't really have much in the tank. It was a lovely ride but I just didn't feel like I was going as well as I could.
As usual the run was much better, I managed to get a good pace going and felt much happier passing people. One poor bugger was off to the side of the path puking his guts out. Just as I got to the oval some guy drew level with me from behind and we did an all-out 50 metre sprint to the finish - the bastard got me though!
Then I biked to Fairlight and had brekky with my parents and dropped my valuables while I went down for the North Steyne 2.8km ocean swim. Unfortunately I dropped ALL my valuables so had no money to enter! By the time I realised that I could probably pay with my credit card number the race had started, ah well, I watched all the waves go in and then went for a solo swim out and back and a run along the sand and then watched the winners finished.
Then I cruised down to South Steyne and jumped in for a scenic swim around Fairy Bower to Shelly Beach and back, that should have got a couple of kms in! It was absolutely lovely. Somehow even though it was a hot sunny day I got the shivers and had to go back to mum and dads for a hot shower and put on my arm warmers until I got the core temp back to normal and was able to do a slow and easy ride home. Nice morning though!
