WEDNESDAY
A day off running, I rekindled the joy of yoga at 5.30am. I need to keep some regularity of at least twice a week, because when I take a week or two off (like the last couple of weeks) I end up in serious pain after a session! Like I did last Friday.
When I’m doing it every few days though it’s just a really nice stretch and I feel sensational afterwards. Mmmmm.
Wanted to go for a swim at lunch, but timing-wise never managed to get away which I found very frustrating. So after work when Sarah said she was going to the gym I took the opportunity to stop by North Sydney pool on the way home for a sneaky 2km. I did 200m reps – 50m solid, 100m fast, 50 easy. It’s always a gamble with me how I’m going to feel after work because I’m used to exercising in the morning, but I’ve been on a good energy cycle this week and it really felt good and I was buzzing all evening.
THURSDAY
I’ve been seriously neglecting the bike over the last month, so I cleared off the cobwebs and wheeled up to Boundary Riders this morning. It’s funny how just a couple of weeks off makes you feel a bit more awkward, less fluid, less at one with the bike. It wasn’t too bad, but when everyone went to accelerate for the pace line I changed gears and my chain got stuck and I couldn’t pedal at all. It took me a few seconds to release it and by then, whoosh they were goneski. I pedalled with all my might but just couldn’t get near the paceline and then got caught by the lights at Bike Addiction as they disappeared into the distance. I’ve caught the group from there before, but not today. Not only did I get caught by every single red light, but I got them right when they changed so it seemed like was waiting at every intersection for 10 minutes at a time. It was a lonely cycle home, but it was ok.
Lunchtime I went out with the HuRTS boys and did the Mona Fartlek, so a short 20 minute session (which felt especially short after Tuesdays effort). I still had plenty left in my at the end, so probably didn’t push hard enough. Ah well, live and learn!
