I had a bit of apprehension this morning thinking about this session, I’m not sure why. Actually it’s probably because I didn’t do any exercise before work this morning which always puts me into a bit of a funk. Even running down there I was making excuses to myself that it’s a really hard session, that I would only be able to manage 3 reps and that’s ok, etc etc.
I’m not sure why the nervous anticipation, it's an odd feeling that I don't get very often. I used to get it years ago when drinking coffee. In fact it's the main reason I got off the caffeine. I didn't like feeling anxious for no reason. Anyway it strangely happened today, but of course i had a great run and now I feel terrific. Good old endorphins.
Anyway I got there a bit late and we started running straight away once I got there. It's a lovely sunny day around Farm Cove, I saw Kathryn as well as Chris running the other way, and I stuck with Greg keeping a pretty good fast pace for the first rep, ending up further along the path after 10 minutes than I ever have before. Running back felt equally good if not better and I managed to push ahead a little way, my legs and lungs just happy to go. Made it back to the gates in 9:44
Greg had to go to a meeting and Steve took off as well, so I had nobody to pace with on the third rep which made it a bit more difficult and I certainly took it a bit slower because of that. Also I was feeling good at this stage and trying to save something for a fourth rep, so there was a definite slow down. I wound up about 100m short of my earlier mark.
The fourth rep was a bit soft, I was completely by myself for most of it and really didn’t push that hard, except with just under 3 minutes to go the main pack passed me and I lifted for the stretch home. Made it back to the gates in 9:52 which would have been my slowest rep, but I was just stoked to have made all four feeling good. You can see in my HR that I wasn’t pushing myself on the last one.
