Sydney Marathon Clinic 25km

Today was the last SMC run of the season, 25km out at Smithfield. Chris and I decided to keep the long runs going and drove out there with a cold fog rising from the sports fields as the thermometer hit about 8 degrees when we arrived at 6.45am

We weren't intending to race it a week after the half marathon, and we could have just done a training run from home, but for both of us the mental strength to just go out and pound a long run is not there right now. It's so much easier to have a proper course with km markers, a start and finish line, drink stations and other competitors to spur you on.

In actual fact there was little "spurring on" but more "letting go". There were a few people around us that I felt like chasing down, especially in the last few kms when quite a few guys fired up and went past us. But we both just felt like cruising and taking it easy and to be honest I had zero competitive urge to race anyone today. All I wanted was a nice long easy run and a chat and that's what I got - we yakked the whole way and the two hours went in what felt like ten minutes. You can't ask for a better result than that.

So we averaged 5min/kms for 2:05:40, the first half was faster.

1 -- 4:39
2 -- 4:37
3 -- 4:42
4 -- 4:42
5 -- 4:45
6 -- 4:25
7 -- 4:25
8 -- 5:08
9 -- 4:40
10 -- 4:42
13 -- 14:52 (av 4:57 for these 3kms)
18 -- 27:44 (with a 1 minute pee break, av 5:20 for these 5kms)
20 -- 9:48 (av 4:54 for these 2kms)
21 -- 5:15
22 -- 5:12
23 -- 5:22
24 -- 5:16
25 -- 5:21

Sounds like a tough session - but not surprising given your efforts in the half.

Did you end up trying/getting Frankincense? Did I explain it clearly enough? Cheers
