This morning was a cracker. I slept very well, but woke up just before 4am and the cats were unfortunately a little overactive and stopped me from doing more than just nodding off for a few minutes here and there until my alarm at 5.10. I was not at all raring to go by this point, plus the wind was howling outside and I considered not doing a ride… but the thought of having missed out on Tuesday’s ride and only having a week before Canada was enough to get me out the door.
Another huge bunch of Boundary Riders today and the pack set a faster pace than normal. I kept the gearing easy and tried to maintain a high cadence and it seemed to work pretty well for me. The Roseville climb felt like hell over the first few hundred metres, but suddenly I was spinning easily and made it up ahead of a lot of people. Kept with the bunch all the way until North Manly and – miracle of miracles – I managed to stay with the paceline the whole way! There were no red lights this time til BA, but there was a massive group so I only had to do 1 ½ turns up the fast side. I was breathing hard but smiling ear to ear by the time we stopped at BA for the lights.
The rest of the ride felt strong, even the pull up Parrawi and the fast stretch along Military Road, although I did drop back slightly at the end just before Ben Boyd Road.
Got home, played with the cats for a few minutes then ran to work which strangely felt quite easy and I was able to keep a solid pace with my legs feeling good. The sun was warm on my back and I was happy as a clam when I arrived at the office. Pretty much the perfect morning for me. Now lets see how the HuRTS session goes…
