Tuesday HuRTS 4 x 10mins

I’ve had a little streak on Boundary Riders lately, but had to break it this morning unfortunately. I was keen to go, but had a 7am meeting so really just woke up, got ready and left the house. Missing my morning exercise made me all the more keen for HuRTS at lunch, especially considering I missed last Thursday. Unfortunately I was in a meeting with my new boss (who is awesome) and he hasn’t had much time to hang out with me and is off to the US in two days. Plus it’s only my 2nd week at this new job, so I didn’t want to say “Listen I have to go for a run now!”

Luckily we finished up a few minutes later and I thought, if I get cracking I can make it for the last 2 reps (today was 4 x 10mins) and so I did. I managed the first rep way faster than I’ve ever done before, I got about 100m past the Art Gallery which was fantastic because I didn’t feel like I was pushing that hard. Made it back to the gates in 9:35, so it wasn’t a fluke. However everyone had finished at that stage so I had to do the final 2 reps all on my lonesome, which I found bloody difficult to push myself hard enough. This is why I love running with the group. I was way short of my earlier mark, only making it to just before the Art Gallery (that last solitary tree before the turn-in bay) and only making it back in 9:55. So pretty lame, but then again I was just happy that I managed to make myself do all four without the group around.

I had a bit of a stress yesterday because I found out that I couldn’t get onto the standby flights to LA next Friday. That meant I’d have to leave the day earlier (Thursday morning) which meant missing out on both a Boundary ride AND a HuRTS session. Now that my life is obsessed by training this seemed unacceptable! I got on the phone and changed my connecting flight to go from San Francisco (instead of LA) to Vancouver so now I can go Friday and keep both training sessions.

This makes me happy. I’m worried about myself.

Hey Mike,

It's not weird. Life shouldn't get in the way of a good run. It's not like you decided to fly to the US heading West to make the training :-)

Very impressive session Mike - as you have said before "Mental Toughness, I like that!". And I love your commitment to training, nothing wrong with that
